I typically use a real Leslie and, with that configuration, I prefer the Nord C2 hands down. the nord electro 4 is also a good optionespecially if you need other sounds such as a rhodes, wurly or piano. It has great sounds and more program options then I will ever use. The other sounds are fun and sound good - farfisa, wurlizer, rhodes etc. But the SK1 caught my attention a few weeks ago, so down the YouTube rabbit hole I went, listening to every performance I could find. Search for "clonewheels" for sound comparisons. Lots of stuff can get very close to the drawbar result and the key click, etc. Even better than the XK-1), and easy to use. I tried several other boards because I wanted Elec piano too. Very good B-3 with nice action and internal Leslie sim. The Gator GK-49 (49-Key) case is the perfect size for the SK-1 with room for small items in the case and storage in the external pocket for accessories too. It's also very intuitive in that the left side is where you find all of the traditional organ controls, (such as vibrato/chorus, leslie controls, and drawbars), while the right side has all of the "extras." to guide you through your entire shopping experience. I have a K5000s and it is an excellent synth but it isn't even close to as good as a Hammond XK-3c for B3 stuff. The SK is an ultra-light package, but don't equate
The real tube overdrive is fantastic. After previously owning a B-3 and a 122rv Leslie, I can say I'm impressed with the sound with this organ and Leslie. Overall, the SK1 is a great instrument - whether someone is new to Hammond organs, or an experienced player. The Electro-Harmonix B9 Organ Machine has nine presets that closely emulate signature B3 sounds. This is a toy - do not be fooled. I have read the instructions to load the "Bonus" voices 12 times, and I still cannot get them all to load. HATE, HATE this keyboard. It gives me the second manual plus a GREAT assortment of other keyboards. I felt the need to do some tweaking of the on-board sim parameters out of the box but was successful in zeroing in on the sound my ears were looking for. I love this Hammond. I am glad I bought the SK1 and, as always, my longtime Sweetwater sales engineer made it an easy purchase. One of the most realistic Leslie simulator I've ever played. The b3 is in essence, an additive synth. It is similar to the VR-09 in size and weight, but a lot more money. I like the Hammond Hammond XK-1c. It may not display this or other websites correctly. Very convincing B3, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Clavinet, and Acoustic Piano sounds. It"s really cool to have a real authentic Hammond Organ inside such a small package!! JavaScript is disabled. I would take a hammer to this thing if it had not cost so much money. However, at 400 lb., moving a real B3 not to mention the Leslies around takes some serious grunt-work and requires a truck to transport. But its heavier so the VR-09 is the one that usually leaves the house with me. As long as you start early and don't play into the wee hours of the morning. Feels fantastic, sounds fantastic. This keyboard is excellent. Hearing the demos and stage performances just blew me away. I'm just looking for a Keyboard that when I want a Horn Section, or String Section, B3 Organ, and Electric and Acoustic Pianos, and some Synthesizer Sounds, When I hit that Key, I want it to sound Exactly like the sounds I mentioned, not Cheesey, Toy, Almost, etc., But Exactly!!! The ability to modify/build your own organ/pipe/etc from custom tonewheels etc is a very nice feature. All voices will need tweaking to your tastes, as any will. You will appreciate its light weight if you take it to rehearsals and gigs. All in less than 20 pounds. A bit of a stretch for me cost-wise but well worth the $$. How low frequency wise should your subwoofer go? The staff and tech crew at Sweetwater called me back right away, ran me through rebooting- troubleshooting procedures and immediately sent me a label to ship it back. It was opened in year 3 to remove this screw by a technician because the screw got caught on one of the key (and jammed that key). - Since the week 1-2 having it, there was a loose screw. Plus, it weighs 16 lbs. They are not cheap but it is a quality piece of gear. Ryan Holquist took super good care of me and was awesome to deal with. It screams, it purrs, and produces smiles like the real thing. This is truly a portable B3 in all ways. Apologies to the purists! Been a Hammond plyer for 46 years. It has the VK-8 sound, synth style keys and drawbars are slider pots so it is not as authentic in feel, but the light weight of 12 pounds wins the day for me. My Korg CX-3 died a few years ago so it's fun having an organ back in the band.
